About the Role:
We are looking for a qualified broadband network engineer to join our Broadband Architecture team, and to provide engineering support and expertise in the fast-moving area of broadband in-home networking. The candidate should be familiar with installation, setup, and maintenance of gateway routers, LAN switches, Wi-Fi access points and extenders, and other equipment commonly found in consumer broadband in-home networks.
What You'll Do:
- Conduct hardware and software testing for in-home network devices such as residential gateways, cable modems, Wi-Fi access points and extenders, optical network terminals, and VoIP analog telephone adapters
- Produce configuration guides and other technical documentation for new in-home networking equipment and software
- Test embedded software modules that enable additional operational support capabilities or value-added-services
- Conduct interoperability testing with operational support systems that manage subscribers’ in-home network devices
- Support development and integration of new firmware features or software modules for in-home network devices
- Engage with Windstream’s vendor partners, and participate in the ongoing development of the technology roadmap for Windstream
Do You Have?
- 3-5 years’ experience in an operations or engineering role with a broadband Internet service provider
- Experience with network protocols commonly used in in-home network devices, such as DHCP, PPPoE, DHCPv6, SLAAC, DNS, Ethernet, IPv4, IPv6, and UPnP
- Experience with common telemetry and management protocols used to manage in-home network elements, such as TR-069/CWMP, SNMP, TR-369/USP, XMPP, MQTT, and STOMP
- Experience with Wi-Fi access protocols such as WPA, WFA EasyMesh, WMM, WPS, 802.11a/b/g/n/ax, MU-MIMO, and MU-OFDMA
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to solve technical problems
- Ability to show initiative, and to work individually or as part of a team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and prioritize effectively
Even Better:
- Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or information technology
- Experience in network design or network architecture
- Experience managing hardware and software lifecycle for in-home networking devices (e.g., routers/gateways, ONTs, Wi-Fi access points, DOCSIS modems, DSL modems)
- Experience with broadband access technologies such as GPON, XGSPON, DOCSIS, VDSL2, ADSL2+, G.Fast, G.Hn, fixed wireless
- Experience with Linux computing
- Experience working with lightweight virtualization and software containers such as LXC or Docker
- Experience with hardware virtualization such as VMWare ESXi, KVM, or Hyper-V
- Experience with open-source operating software such as OpenWRT, prplOS, DD-WRT, VyOS, etc.
- Experience in automation, especially in software regression testing, and use of tools such as Ansible, Robot, PyTest, Jenkins, Selenium, or others
- Experience with network protocol simulators such as Ixia IxNetwork or Spirent TestCenter
- Understanding of telecommunications industry or knowledge of one or more engineering disciplines
- Knowledge of accepted engineering practices, computer software, analytical skills including the ability to prioritize projects
