Position Title: High School Science Teacher
Reports to: Principal (Alternative Education teachers report to Director of Alternative Education)
Nature and Scope of Position: The most important role of all district employees is that of a teacher. All other positions exist to support the teacher in the critical role of instructing students. Teachers help students achieve the instructional goals for students of Poteau Schools utilizing means consistent with the district philosophy.
Supervises: Teacher Assistants and Volunteers if assigned.
Major Duties:
Be informed about the role, purposes and goals of education in regard to individuals and to society; human growth and development; learning theory; organizing for instruction; instructional materials and resources; and methods of instruction that consider individual differences.-
Have in-depth and updated information about the structure, concepts and facts of the subject assigned to teach.

Establish and maintain favorable learning conditions free from distractions; and develop in students ideals, habits, and skills leading to self-control and good citizenship.

Strive to be a positive role-model for students as a teacher and person.

Cause assigned students to effectively achieve the goals established for the teacher's classes and cause gifted students and special education students in their classes to achieve the goals of those programs.

Be committed to continuous improvement as a teacher.

?support school policies, academic programs, and activity programs and take responsibility for student behavior outside the teacher's classroom.

Use good judgment when interpreting school programs to members of the community.

Work cooperatively with colleagues on various school committees and contribute to the accomplishment of group tasks.

Teach, encourage, stimulate, and support co-workers to be effective staff members.

Complete records, reports, and supervisory duties punctually and effectively.

Keep teaching areas attractive and in good order and exercise care over equipment and materials, shared or assigned only to them.

Perform at a competency level in technology that allows the use of computer assisted instruction, administrative tasks and other uses of technology as described in the district Technology Plan.

Carry out other tasks assigned by their principal.
Evaluation: Teachers shall be evaluated in accordance with Oklahoma Minimum Criteria for Effective Teaching and board of education policy.
